Decision on release date of ‘Padmavati’ to be made after Gujarat elections

Amidst the growing controversy over upcoming Bollywood movie ‘Padmavati’, filmmakers have decided to announce the release date of their film after the Gujarat elections. Raising opposition to the film has already deferred its release date.

A source close to the film told that the movie will most probably be released in January 2018. The crew seems to be looking to avoid the box office clash with Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif starrer upcoming Hindi film ‘Tiger Zinda Hai’.

Featuring Deepika Padukone, Shahid Kapoor and Ranveer Singh in prominent roles, ‘Padmavati’ was scheduled to release on 18th November 2017 as per the earlier schedule. After facing massive protests over the rumoured dream scene between a Hindu queen and Muslim king, the release date was postponed.

The protests took violent turn in the month of November this year. Bounties were announced for beheading the filmmaker and the lead actor. After seeing the growing intensity of agitation from extremist groups across the country, filmmakers cancelled the film’s release on 1st December 2017.

So as to confirm whether the celluloid has any objectionable scene, the protestants demanded screening of the film before its actual release. The movie’s production company is intending to have a special screening for the limited members of protestant groups. Further details about the same are awaited.
